Open Duck Mini

The Open Duck Mini is the Hungarian Robotics Association’s first community robot-building project. The open source, 3D-printed bipedal robot is based on the Disney BDX droid and is a perfect entry point into humanoid robotics.

Project goals

Community members build the Open Duck Mini robot together while learning:

  • 3D printing and mechanical design
  • Servo control and electronics assembly
  • AI-driven operation and large language model integration
  • Sim2real pipeline (from simulation to real robot)

The robot on video

We display sponsors and builders on this website (with a link on request) and apply their names as decals on the robot – so they will be visible at every event, in every video and press material, similar to Formula 1 cars. This is a unique, long-term visibility opportunity before an audience interested in robotics and technology.

Status

The project is under active development. Construction of the first prototype is in progress, and we are organizing workshops for printing and assembling components.

Next steps

  • Robot arms – building open source manipulators
  • Larger humanoid robots
  • Establishing a community lab
